Ponderance for today

This is just something to ponder:
In the Garden of Eden, there were animals and vegetation, one man, one woman and one talking snake.
Does anybody ever think about this? Not the obvious thing about who did Cain marry or hook up with (and, by the way, Adam and Eve were not married.) but where does it say that any other animal ever spoke?
Now this is not about talking animals. This is about a serpent who spoke to Eve and then was cast down. Not killed, cast down. This might bear some thought as people cast doubt upon the beliefs of some that believe that there is an at least equally intelligent serpent race living beneath the surface of the earth.
If you have any thoughts about this I would love to get some feedback.
